Renewable energies and energy storage: a challenge for the future

The share of renewable energies (ENR) in the French energy mix has continued to accelerate in recent years (28-31% by 2023) but these energy sources, in particular wind turbines and photovoltaic panels, are exposed to the intermittency problem and therefore display variable production.

However, the electricity system must be balanced between supply and demand on a continuous basis.

To guarantee a constant power supply, the solution therefore consists of developing storage means which act as an adjustment variable.

The energy produced will thus be preserved over time to then be consumed as needed.
